Our commitment to the environment
Climate change is an existential threat, with the building industry contributing to nearly half of CO2 emissions. Architecture must respond to this challenge.
The UN recommends limiting global temperature rise to 2°C by reducing carbon emissions by 80% by 2050. New York City codified these goals through the Climate Mobilization Act (Local Law 97), requiring large buildings to cap carbon emissions.
At Paul A. Castrucci, Architects (PCA), the environment always informs our work. We integrate Passive House design to drastically reduce energy consumption, comply with Local Law 97, and provide healthy indoor environments—all while maximizing client value and minimizing budget impact.
Our efforts in low-energy and Passive House buildings are part of the solution to mitigate CO2 emissions. We've completed NYC's first Certified Passive House + Net Zero capable building (R-951 Residence) and continue to work on over a dozen Passive House projects. We design buildings that benefit generations, leveraging natural rhythms like solar, shading, wind, and vegetation, while supporting clients' financial goals.
Recognizing the perils of climate change, we make smart decisions in planning and specifications to control costs, decrease maintenance, and extend building life.
