passive house

The Passive House (PH) approach to building is proven to significantly reduce energy consumption and provide a healthy indoor environment. Its methodology follows key sets of design principles, as outlined below.

PH uses whole building energy modeling to optimize design parameters early in the project to help clients make smart decisions and minimize the budget impact. A carefully designed building envelope ensures continuity of the air barrier and the insulation layer while reducing thermal bridges. The project installs high-performing windows and efficient mechanical systems. A balanced heat/energy recovery ventilator helps reduce energy consumption while providing a healthy indoor environment.

With over 15 years of experience building to Passive House Standards - including having completed NYC's first Certified Passive House + Net Zero capable building (R-951 Residence), and with our continued work on more than a dozen Passive House buildings - including the Community Arts organization ABC No Rio - we are recognized leaders in high-efficiency building design.
